GO Volunteer Expo 2016
Wednesday, March 09, 2016My sister tagged me at a Facebook post last weekend and told me she badly wants to attend this event. I had prior commitments beforehand but was eventually cancelled so we went and tried to check it out.
There was an online pre-registration though when we got to the venue there were no officials who required us on doing so. It was an open event at the activity center and participating was FREE.
GO Volunteer Expo is a 2-day gathering of some of the country’s good cause and charitable groups, institutions and organizations. The expo was made possible by iVolunteer Philippines in participation with Glorietta, DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), WoH (Works of Heart) and 2nd Avenue.
As we checked out the stage, we were handed a ticket by one of the marshalls and told us how everything works. It was a pass wherein you need to participate on some of the games, get a stamp for finishing the game and get your name registered for the raffle.
There were three boxes for activities but there two boxes already crossed out so we participated at the nearest game we found which was the Word Search Game.
We got to help the girls who were already playing the game and we all get to have our passes stamped right away. :P
The whole feel of the place was very inviting and friendly. And the best part of the day was I get to witness a flash mob for the first time! We were playing the word search when suddenly there was a loud upbeat song and then 5 guys started dancing. I was like “WOAH! Cool!”, and I think I shouted a bit loud out of excitement. Lol. The hype went on when few more came in to dance, and more then more! It was so fun..gaaahhh..I missed dancing!
There were volunteer works for everyone. There were feeding programs, schooling programs, rehabilitation programs and awareness programs. It was really nice knowing organizations like these are big and successful here in our country. Everyone was easy to approach, informative and you can really feel that they are passionate with their work.
We got a chance to stay and hear Ate Kritzia Santos, co-founder of Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid (2KK).
She told the story of how she and her friends started volunteering for fun until it became a weekend gathering until as what they say, the rest was history.
You can really tell that Ate Kritzia is true to her passion and has genuine love to help out, it was very inspiring. She introduced the crowd to some of the people they've helped out before and are now helping out to fellow unfortunate children.
Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid (2KK) is a group of volunteers who provide education assistance to less privileged kids via tutorial sessions and academic activities. They started out weekend tutorials at Payatas and has now expanded to few other locations and held events and scholarship sponsorships.
We stayed a bit more and checked out the inspirational panels scattered around the place. Here are my favorites:
Another activity we participated at was "Create Your Own Sipa". While we were making our sipa, my name was called on stage. I just actually won the raffle and recevied a Messy Bessy box; a scented candle and an air freshener spray.
We got our sipa finished and did one final look at the event place. We took few more brochures just in case and went home.
The overall experience was fulfilling. It was fun and inspiring. I might look forward to attending these kinds of events in the future.
